Being A Recruiter Is A Great Career Choice
24th February 2022
Working in recruitment is a great career choice (of course we would say that) but we've got to concede it probably isn't a job you grew up dreaming about.
We think it's time to show some appreciation for the job we love and explain why it might be a great career choice for you too. This is what being a recruitment consultant at TMM Recruitment means:
Making a difference
You're making a positive contribution, supporting people through their job search. Even recruiters who have worked here for over 10 years agree that telling someone they've got a new job is the best feeling.
Job satisfaction
As well as supporting job seekers, you're also helping employers find the skilled people their business needs to succeed and grow. Collaborating with a client, sharing your market knowledge, advice on how to find and attract the best candidates, and then sourcing one of your talented candidates for the job is really satisfying.
Relationships
There's no doubt about it, you need to be interested in people to be a good recruitment consultant. You'll meet thousands of individuals throughout your career, from all walks of life. Being able to talk with anyone has to be a strength, but also something you enjoy as the key to being a successful recruiter is building relationships that stand the test of time.
You'll discover that a client can become a job seeker or conversely, someone you helped find a job comes back to you for help if they're in a position with hiring responsibilities.
Expert
You'll become an expert in your niche because we work in specialisms at TMM Recruitment. You'll gather more and more information about the job market, employer hiring practices, and candidate expectations. You'll also be growing your own network of contacts and deepening your understanding of recruitment best practice and hiring tactics. Every day is an opportunity to develop your personal brand, to become the "go-to" preferred recruiter because of your knowledge and attitude.
Transferable Skills
Agency recruitment is a sales job so there are times when you'll have to be resilient. This is a good thing because resilience and a whole host of people skills that you'll develop here will stand you in good stead across other aspects of your life.
Continually Learning
You're constantly meeting job seekers and employers, and the job market continually evolves so you're adapting and learning all the time.
Every industry needs the support of recruiters, in fact, the recruitment industry supports £86 billion in gross value added across the UK economy. At TMM Recruitment we work in professional specialisms, recruiting across every local sector so you'll have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of different industries too.
Development
There's huge scope for development. We'll teach you all you need to know about your market area, our systems, and good recruitment practice. This will set you up to power your own development, taking your career to the next level. We believe in growing our own talent and this has created promotion opportunities across our business, even our chief executive joined as a graduate and worked her way up the ranks!
Never a dull moment
Sometimes you'll find yourself under time pressure and that can get the adrenaline pumping!
Employers will often come to you for help because candidates are very hard to find. You'll have to get creative and act as their brand ambassador, adopting tactics that will attract the right candidates.
It can get competitive. We prefer to work exclusively with clients but that's not always possible which means you'll be competing with other agencies – and adds to the job satisfaction we spoke of earlier when you're successful.
The very nature of recruitment means that two days are never the same. You'll switch between advising candidates, meeting clients, networking, researching, and managing your to-do list so you'll find it's stimulating and time flies.
Financial reward
In agency recruitment the harder you work, the more successful you are. We operate a commission structure and this means that in addition to your basic salary you earn money for every placement you make. This isn't a route for making a fast buck though.
Clients and candidates only want to work with you if you have their best interests at heart and that means taking the time to make successful matches that stand the test of time.
It is quality over quantity and repeat business will ensure your own earning success.
Great colleagues
We're a supportive team with a great market reputation. It's our culture to keep improving, set high standards, and enjoy our work. You'll be supported every step of the way in your development and enjoy a fun social life too.
