Instrument & Systems Engineer - VR/30415

Currently recruiting for an experienced Instrument & Systems Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P company based in Kingswells, Aberdeen. The contract will initially run until the end of December 2025 and the company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.

     

This role would suit a candidate who has experience of working as an Instrument Engineer with EPC companies, has worked on modifications for end operator clients, and has an appreciation of the systems side.  Or conversely, it would also suit an experienced Systems Engineer who has an appreciation of field instrumentation. 

      

The Instrument & Systems Engineer will work as part of a team of Instrument Engineers to deliver engineering solutions and changes on UK operated assets.  The post holder will be responsible for delivering several work scopes for a wide variety of brownfield modifications.  There will also be a requirement to interface with the EPC contractor and systems vendors on a regular basis to ensure compliance with company processes and procedures.

      

Reporting directly to the Lead Instrument Engineer, the Instrument & Systems Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible Engineer for multidisciplinary engineering scopes to provide effective technical support to operated assets.
  • Apply engineering principles, standards, procedures and good practices to ensure all engineering work is carried out to meet all necessary safety requirements.
  • Ensuring work processes and procedures are fit for purpose and implemented to ensure the team is consistently applying sound engineering principles and work is performed in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Accountable for discipline engineering deliverables for engineering scopes/changes/studies/ investigations. This includes calculations, datasheets, design assessments, review/approval of vendor documents, work packs, schedules, etc.
  • Effectively planning work to meet asset requirements and alignment with planning processes.
  • Providing technical advice and guidance on engineering activities that affect more than one department or operated asset.
  • Planning, organising and carrying out special, complex and advanced level studies upon request.
  • Responsible for presenting project proposals, conclusions or recommendations to senior management.
  • Taking course of action necessary to expedite the successful completion of projects.

      

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A Degree qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline is essential.
  • Functional Safety Engineer certification would be preferred.
  • COMPEX 12 Application Design Engineer certification would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar Instrument & Systems Engineer type role, directly within the North Sea Oil & Gas industry, is essential.
  • Previous experience with an Offshore Operator would be preferred.
  • EPC/design experience would be preferred.
  • Applicants should have experience with management of change processes and requirements.
  • Applicants should have experience of managing engineering contractors and service providers.
  • Applicants will be expected to have experience in the use of standards (e.g., IEC61511 and BS EN60079); instrument and general engineering specifications & datasheets; design calculations (e.g., I.S. calculations); control systems design requirements; understanding of engineering diagrams (e.g., P&ID’s, loop diagrams, pneumatics hook ups and termination drawings).
